Hello guys, and welcome back to TremRadio! I'm your host DASPRiD, and I know, that it wasn't easy to for you to live without a real Tremradio show the last months. But hey, we are finally back, and today you will get some more information regarding the development of Tremulous and all around it. Many new things happened in the past, since we made the last show, and so I have a lot to talk about. Well, as I decided very late to make this show, the stuff I'm talking about later may be quite unsorted, but I try my best to give you a good show. You will be informed about bad things that happened, about good things, and things which will happen in the near future. I think, that I will have something for everyone, unimportant if you are a player, a mapper or some other kind of developer. And now, before the show starts, I have to take you some hope for the future. I won't make show every week again. Instead, I will just make shows, when I have stuff to talk about. This will safe us all lots of senseless saturday evenings. If you want to know, if a show will air, just check the IRC channel of Tremradio, or the topic of the Tremulous channel. So, let us do a break now, enjoy the music and don't switch the channel, we'll be back in a couple of minutes. I'm your host DASPRiD, and you are connected to Tremradio! -- BREAK -- Hey, this wasn't bad, was it? So, like you know it from earlier sessions, I will first talk about my own projects, before I go on with the other things. As you may have read on my website, or if you have listened carefully to the show I made in the last week, you may know that I have canceled my first and newest map, Delta Labs. I wasn't sure anymore about what to do with this map, so I decided to throw it away. But to make the work not entirely useless, I took parts of it, and made a new map with it, called Aurora. This new map will be mid-sized between Tremor and Karith Station, but will be something entirely different, regarding to the layout and the design of it. Thanks to all the donations, I have received from you, I was able to buy a very special science fiction texture set, containing over 80 new textures in a very high quallity. This means, the textures have a four times higher resolution than normal textures, you have seen in Tremulous so far. I'm also working with very complex shader and particle effects, so the map will really take out the last of the Quake 3 engine. Since I have many other projects at the moment, this map will take a long time of development, but I promise you, the waiting will be rewarded. However, there are also my two other maps, Ancient Remains and Hamunaptra. People always wanted me, to make changes here, make changes there, anyway, change the entire maps. As I have very little time, I choosed to release the development files of those maps, so other mappers can make their one changes on the maps. You can find them either in the files section on my website, or in the regarding detail pages of the maps itself. But please, don't make some crap with these maps, I would kill you for it! Well, a bit away from Tremulous, I'm also working on two other projects. The first one is called AuroraBB, which is a bulletin board, built upon the Zend Framework. It will be complete XHTML and CSS compliant, and the url structure will be very search engine friendly. Thanks to the Zend Framework, it will be very easy for you, to add your own functionallity to the board. The big difference to other boards will be the requirements, which have to be met. You need at least PHP 5.1 and Apache with activated Mod_Rewrite. I have yet set up a detail page and a forum on my website, where you can discuss about AuroraBB. Beside that, I'm working on a PHP library, called LayerLib. This library makes you able to create layered imaged in PHP. You can set the size, position and alpha value of each layer. You can also set the blend modes of each layer, like you can do it in GIMP or Adobe Photoshop. This includes standard, multiply, devide, and so on. As PHP is a slowly performing scripting language, the rendering progress of even small images take some seconds. So this library should only be used, to calculate images in a backend, not in the frontend. So, maybe you all are waiting for Tremstats 0.9, which will be totally rewritten in the C-language. Well, this may take the longest amount of time, since the other projects have a higher priority for me, than this one. So, in which order can you expect me to finish all those projects? Well, first of all, I want to release a stable version of the LayerLib, then I may go on with the map Aurora. After that, I have to decide, if either AuroraBB or Tremstats is more important for me. It may be helpful, If I could find a good coder, to help me out with the C-part of Tremstats, so I could do frontend part. If this would be the case, I would finish Tremstats 0.9 before the Aurora map. Ok, thats enough about my projects. I'm doing another break now, then I will talk about the progress on Tremulous 1.2. See you later. -- BREAK -- Hey, welcome back to Tremradio with your favourite host DASPRiD! Maybe you did wonder, what's going on with the development of Tremulous 1.2? Well, here I can give some good facts, but only bad things, that happened and will happen. I don't want to tell lies, but I can't also hide the truth. Development on Tremulous got stucked in the last months. As you may know, I joined the developmetn team very late in the end of 2006, and there wasn't much for me to do. I have released one map so far, which isn't really that good than I hoped to. Since then, I wasn't able to release any new stuff, and there was very less from the other devs. However, we have canceled the voice commands, since we did never finish all voices yet, and the coding for it was never done. Also, most devs are tired of working on Tremulous, since they are in now for more than 5 years. The community annoys them, and I really can understand it. Most of them want to begin new projects, and just want to finish the latest release in one way or another. So most of the new things, I have talked about in earlier shows, won't find their way into the next release. This doesn't just include the voice commands, but maybe also the new trooper model. At the moment it is also unknown, if the new weapon models will be finished in time. Jex will overwork Gloom 2 and release the final version of it with the new version. Well, more things are not known, and I don't really want to tell you more, that's enough bad stuff so far. If you are asking me for a release date, well, I can't really tell. I just know, that I have enough time to finish the map Aurora, but, that's really all. I don't know, when the other devs plan to finish their stuff, so it can take just some months, or maybe another year. Maybe you ask yourself, what can you do? Well, as most devs lost motivation, you should give them some new. Tell them, that you like their work, and that you don't want to see Tremulous diing. I would be very unhappy, if this would happen. Ok, since this is a lot of bad stuff, let's listen to some music, to get in a better mood. Enjoy. -- BREAK -- Hey guys, welcome back to Tremradio. Now, here are the news, which happened in the last months. First of all, Gareth wants all good mappers to polish and finish their maps, so he can make an unofficial Tremulous 1.1.5 release. I think, I don't have to find new words for this, so let's just quote him, this is, what he wrotes: "I (and others) think it would be an excellent idea for a 1.1.5 release to be created, with new maps, a backported client to get new menus etc, and auto download turned on. Why? because few people play new maps, and that rather sucks, same old maps again and again is boring. its crap for the players because its boring and its crap for the mappers because with a few exceptions, getting your custom map on a server means 90% of the people leave because they cant download it or dont want to wait for hours at 5kb/s. A 1.1.5 release with a whole bunch of new maps would provide some refreshing new content, and because a http autodownload is turned on by default, new maps can download easily in future too. In order for this to happen, there needs to be a release date that is stuck to, and preferably fairly soon too, tentatively thinking sept. 24. if you have a map in progress, can you finish it within a month or so? Or if your map is finished possibly polish it up for a release? Not thinking of including every map that has been produced, only good ones, eg of around the quality of the stock maps." So, this is what he said. I agree to this idea, and I think, that the planned release date of it is possible to hold. To get your map into this, you have to release it under the Createive Commons attribution-sharealike 2.5 licence. This also means, that you have to include all source files of your map in the package. Also, you may not have used textures or models, which are not compliant to this licence. I have agreed to put the entire package as download on Tremulous.net, if Timbo is ok with that. If not, I think that the package won't have a big chance of getting popular. Alright guys, another break again, then let's see, whcih new maps were release in the past. I'm, your host DASPRiD, and you are tuned into Tremradio! -- BREAK -- Welcome back guys, and welcome to the level design news! First of all, their are two very interesting maps by Ingar. You really should know, that he isn't any lazy guy like me or you. He has release a bunch of maps so far, but those two new maps are very special. The first one is Sirius complex, a map with a very detailed brushwork. It has a glass dome in the human base, which uses a very good looking glass texture. The map is spread with good base locations for both aliens and humans, so it offers many different tactics, means, the map shouldn't get boring as quick as other maps do. If you don't know it, I suggest you to have a look at it. It is running on Funzone and on Metalheads servers. The second map is called Nano. It is a try to make an even smaller map than ATCS, but with a complete new layout. The bases are connected with two ways, which are both symetrical. Ingar hopes to get people out of ATCS with this map, but as it is a custom map, many new players simply don't know it. Maybe they should listen to Tremradio, shouldn't they? -- By the way, staying with Ingar, he is always releasing the newest SVN release of GTK Radiant 1.5 for Linux. So if you want to work with the new version, I suggest you to get it from his download page. You can find it at users.telenet.be/ingar. There you can also fetch some additional textures for GTK Radiant and the font used in Tremulous. -- Well, now, let's skip all those box maps, people has release, and take only a look aht the promising one. One of it is called Marine Combat Center by Mexel. He has released three screenshots, which look very promising. You can download the final version of it in the download section on www.the-deft.com. Another new map, which looks very awesome, is Groundsource by Taiyo.uk. The download link to beta one can be found in the level release forum on tremulous.net. It has an amazing brushwork and uses a lot of patch curves, which gives it an entirely real look. I did not check the gameplay of it yet, the the screenshots tell me some good base locations yet. Check this great work out, and tell him, what he could change to make it even better! -- Okay, thats so far for it. I hope you are not too sad about the bad news, I told you today, but hey, life goes on. If you want me to finish my own projects faster, including Tremstats and my map Aurora, you may donate some money with Paypal, so I get some more motivation to do it. You can find a direct donate link on my website, at the right side of the header. So, since it is very late now, maybe not for you, but for me, we will supply your ears with 30 minutes of more music. I anyway think, that there won't be any more guys left, when I'm done. So, see you again, and check back for new Tremradio shows later. I'm you host DASPRiD, and this was Tremradio!
